My awesome vacation and Epic Rock and Roll Adventure of September 2010 is over. On the one hand I’m kinda sad. On the other hand I’m kind of tired and I spent a ton of $$$ so now I’ve got to go back to work and make some.
Truth is that when I was seeing the bands regionally and still working at the same time, I was much more exhausted. In NYC, where my only job was to rock and roll, eat delicious foods and maybe do some shopping if I felt like it, I coulda kept going perpetually if only I had an endless supply of funds.
First time I felt like I COULD see myself living in NYC. Usually I think its a nice place to visit. Doesn’t mean I will. Just means it’s no longer completely outside of the realm of possibility.
Now I’m home and of course I missed my kitties. Strangely enough I also missed my car.
I enjoyed seeing Valient Thorr with Ross The Boss. Totally fun experience watching him watch them for the first time. My first time changed my life. Maybe Ross didn’t have that exact experience, but I still think it was good for him to see some dudes out there doing what I see as an extension of his work.
I’m hoping to influence him to play some serious high energy rock! It’s all for my own purposes, of course, because I’m just not really a fan of the genre he’s currently playing in. He enjoyed the show but decided “they need anthems”. So my clever plan has failed. But at least I tried.
My whole weekend was perfect and awesome. Busy but not tiring. Fun, not serious, Relaxing but not boring.
The highlight was Electric Six. If for no other reason than that this was what I imagined all Electric Six shows would be like but they generally fall short of my expectations. I’ve learned to lower my expectations but I still held out some sad hope that one day I’d have that perfect E6 experience of seeing them in a large-small concert hall (or is that a small-large concert hall?) where everyone could see and everyone was into it, and it wasn’t 150 degrees and they’d do Dance Epidemic and there’d be a pit. A silly silly fun pit full of dancing people.
This was exactly the way I’d always wished I could see this band.
The show went so fast I’d have sworn they barely played any songs, but when I listened to the albums on my way home, it seems they actually played like EVERY SONG EVER, played a totally different set list than I saw last week, and they even dug out a song or two I hadn’t heard live in a long time.
They always do.
I was sad to eat my last slice of pizza and leave New York City and go back to real life.
