User to User: HP Announces a Windows CE-based Palmtop

I had one of these in the mid to late 90’s. It was fairly useless but I loved the idea of a little mini computer I could take with me. Just the technology wasn’t there yet.

My one could hook up to a phone line and get your email, only it never worked when I was out of town for one reason or another. The only thing it did was allow me to type digital versions of my travel diaries in a format I could transfer to my PC. Eventually I found paper to be a lot less of a hassle.

Every year or two someone would come up with some device that promised me mobile mini computing, and was ultimately disappointing, until just recently when the win xp netbooks started popping up. I’ve been waiting for the price to drop cause I’m cheap.
