SEPULTURA London October 1989 (by supercharger666)
I wasn’t at this show, but I came down early and hung around the line to get in for awhile cause I knew tons of people who went. I didn’t go because I didn’t like Sepultura. I still don’t.
Then I went down the street to the Rock Club where my boyfriend at the time worked at lighting man and after the show everyone came over and told the tales. This is exactly what I imagined it looked like.
This show was the first Sepultura ever did in the UK and people came from everywhere for the chance to catch ‘em live. It was probably the most important gig of the era.
I knew it at the time. And I was still down the street. Because I didn’t like the band. Call me old fashioned but I like a singer that sings. Simple as that.
When the singers stopped singing is when the “baby thrashers”, as I called them, took over my scene and Death Metal became the fashion and I really just didn’t get it anymore.
I’ve come around since. I still don’t listen to it in the car or my daily life or anything. In fact this practically sounds like singing to me now in comparison to a lot of Metal that’s happened since.
But I’ll go to shows like this.
Well, They’re rarely LIKE THIS anymore.
But I do like a rowdy crowd or I feel like it was a wasted opportunity. I’m surprised at how many metalheads stand still for a whole gig these days.
They should be ashamed of themselves.
