Everyday around 3pm the office erupts into some nonsensical conversation that’s generally pretty all-around stupid and isn’t really about anything any more than our hard-working brains trying to get some exercise to the parts we haven’t been using all day.

I understand and accept this. and sometimes even join in the ridiculous chatter which varies in subject matter from “Would you be friends with the Saved By The Bell kids if they were in real life” to my personal favorite “When I get old I’m gonna get a pink hoveround and take it to the Grand Canyon!”

Facts are irrelevant as we spend all day checking facts and correcting information. At 3pm we all need to babble about things we don’t know or care about for awhile just to make everything right with the world.

The problem comes in when the topic of today’s babble actually IS something you know or care about. Like today when no one knew even the most basic facts about the most famous guitar players ever, or that other time when the folks in the next row spent some time discussing Jewish traditions from the point of view of the worlds most clueless Christians.

Its maddening.

No point in correcting the spout of misinformation cause no one cares anyway. No one wants to know the truth or learn about the subject matter. We’re seriously just chattering for the sake of it.

On those rare occassions the conversation dips into your field of expertise, best thing to do is to just walk away.
